Great news from ZSL London Zoo!

There's great news from ZSL London Zoo!

A baby two-toed sloth was born on New Year's Day!  What a start to the new year!

Sloths are nocturnal mammals, native to South America.  They have evolved over millions of years in a fairly stable climate and environment, but they are very vulnerable to small changes in temperature and weather.  The reason is that they can't regulate their own body temperature, so they are really affected by climate change.

Nova was born at ZSL London Zoo on New Year's Day

Zookeepers have called the baby Nova - it means "new" in Latin.

Mum Marilyn spent the first week with baby Nova generally tucked away from view, but they've been spotted with dad Leander in Rainforest Life.  You can find out more about them from ZSL's website.

Pop in to say hello at ZSL London Zoo!
