Make the world a greener place with a Tree Membership

Trees matter. They take in the carbon dioxide we produce and give us the oxygen we need to breathe. They provide food, shelter, a place to rest, to nest and gather. In short, we need more trees. We need clean air to breathe, to thrive and to be healthy, and wildlife need trees to rest and nest, to shelter and to feed.

So it's good to know that there are some gift memberships you can give which not only benefit trees but people and animals as well! Here are just a few - I love all these organisations and the work they do, and nature needs all the support we can give her! With that in mind, you'll find that some of these are not gift memberships but they are lasting gifts such as Creating a Grove with Trees for Life, or planting trees with the Woodland Trust (which I did in memory of my wonderful father).

	The Friends of Westonbird Arboretum, Gloucestershire This UK charity is dedicated to supporting Westonbirt Arboretum's vision to "become the world leader in trees, inspiring people through education, participation and conservation." It works in conservation, education, and participation and memberships go towards caring for the arboretum. 15,000 trees are cared for and 2,500 species are protected! Members receive unlimited entry to Westonbirt, 364 days a year, you can bring up to 4 children/grandchildren (18 and under) on every visit, and there's a range of member benefits including a shop discount! 	Trees for Life I absolutely adore this charity in Scotland. They are rewilding at a landscape-scale, connecting habitats and restoring the stunning Caledonian forest. And big news for them (Oct 2026), they are joining up with the Beaver Trust to reintroduce beavers to the Scottish Highlands - beavers are fantastic eco-engineers, and their wetlands will reduce flooding, capture carbon, purify water and create homes for many species. They don't have a gift membership scheme but you can Plant a Tree or Create a Grove to support. Either are lasting gifts for the future. You can create a grove of trees and that will help to create a beautiful wild forest! 	Forestry England Forestry England have ambitoous plans "to create resilient, nature-rich forests that support wildlife, tackle climate change and benefit people across the country". They say they live and breathe forests. They are growing and caring for the nation's forests and sharing recreational opportunities, helping wildlife and providing sustainable timber. You can do one of two things: You can become a national member, and enjoy parking and dozens of sites and support their work caring for England's forests for £96 a year, or you can become a local member and support your local forest. 	Earthwatch and Tiny Forests This is a great idea! Charity Earthwatch are creating Tiny Forests in our towns and cities, to give people access to nature. You can sponsor a tree from £10 in one of their 300+ Tiny Forests - and support a wildlife haven thriving in an urban community! Their forests grow faster than conventional tree planting and Earthwatch say they attract 500 wildlife species in only three years! Your £10 will help manage climate change impacts in urban areas, care for existing forests, plant new Tiny Forests whey they are needed, engage local volunteers in hands on conservation, create natuarl corridors for wildlife and reconnect urban residents with nature! 	The Royal Scottish Forestry Society This is an educational charity and membership organisation and they work across Scotland. They organise forestry field days and online events. It could be a great gift membership for people who love Scotland and trees. Member benefits include their Scottish Forestry jounal, a fortnightly forestry digest, event discounts, access to bursaries, awards and grants - and a welcoming community! Find out more here.
	The Woodland Trust The Woodland Trust does have a membership programme (my husband and I have been members for a long time) but not a gift membership scheme. However, you could always treee-t yourself, individual memberships are from £4 a month. You'll receive a welcome pack, a directory to over 1,000 Woodland Trust woods, an identificaiton guide to the leaves of native trees and shrubs, three copies of the excellent Broadleaf magazine every year - and a great welcome into a community of over 300,000 like-minded people!
