Wild About Gardens - would you like to help wildlife from your home?

(October 26, 2013)

Would you like to help wildlife from home?  Wild About Gardens Week (25 - 31 October 2013) gives you just the chance to do just that.

Wild About Gardens has information about our wildlife species - amphibians, reptiles, mammals, birds, insects and other invertebrates.  It also has info on the plants which are ideal for wildlife & habitats.

Groups of plants in a location make a habitat, adding interest and creating different homes for wildlife.  You can help wildlife in your garden whether you have containers, .gravel gardens, compost heaps, dry stone walls, hedges, flower borders, a new build garden, shrub gardens or anything else, for that matter.   Click here for more info

There have been declines in two thirds of our plant and animal species over the last 50 years.  Each and every one of us can help to change that, though.  Together we can help to halt the slide. We can all make our gardens & the green spaces in our communities more wildlife friendly.

The week is organised by the RHS (the Royal Horticultural Society) and the Wildlife Trusts and there are events taking place all over the country.

There's also plenty of information on the Wild About Gardens website about how you can help and encourage wildlife in your garden

You could make a bee hotel, make a log shelter, create a pond, plant a tree, plant flowers for bumblebees, feed the birds, leave a corner of your garden to become messy, cut back on your cutting back - there are planty of activities and things you can do.  Click here to see what else you can do.
